How Much Do Retainers Cost?

Once your braces have been removed, you will need to wear a retainer to preserve the results of your orthodontic treatment. A retainer will be necessary to keep your teeth looking their best. Lazzara Orthodontics will estimate the cost of your retainers during your initial consultation. The cost of retainers depends on the type of retainer you need. Below learn more about different retainer options and their costs.

Removable Retainers

Most patients receive removable retainers.Removable retainers are made of durable materials and are custom-fitted for your bite. Often, the transparent material is unnoticeable and can be mistaken for bare teeth.

A removable retainer may not need replacing for many years if cared for properly. Plastic removable retainers vary in price according to each patient’s needs. That said, the price of removable retainers ranges from $150 – $600.

Essix Clear Retainer

Essix retainers are often referred to as “the Invisalign retainer” because they use a clear plastic aligner to keep your smile straight. The pricing for Essix retainers is between $50 – $300 to replace. If well-cared-for, the Essix retainer can last several years.

Hawley retainers keep your teeth in place using a more traditional plastic and wire design. Typically, Hawley retainers cost between $350 – $600 to replace. These retainers are a durable option that can stand up to almost any lifestyle.

Permanent Retainers

Permanent retainers — also known as lower bonded retainers — use tiny wires to keep your teeth from shifting. These wires sit behind your teeth to hold your teeth in the proper place.

Lower bonded retainers can be a magnet for plaque build-up and require excellent oral hygiene habits. These generally are worn for two years after braces treatment. If kept clean during treatment and not causing dental problems, Dr. Lazzara may recommend keeping it in place indefinitely.
