It’s important to understand that your eating habits will have to change slightly while you’re in orthodontic treatment, but remember, it’s only temporary and your cooperation will pay off!
In most situations, common sense will tell you what to avoid. You’ll need to stay away from hard foods, sticky foods, and foods high in sugar – hard foods can damage or break wires and brackets, sticky foods can get caught between wires and brackets, and sugary foods cause tooth decay and other similar problems.
Try to minimize your intake of sugary foods like cake, ice cream, cookies, pie, and candy, and only drink sugary beverages once a day, such as soda, sweet tea, Gatorade, and Kool-Aid.
Be sure to regularly check your braces for bent or loose wires or brackets. If you come across an issue, give our office a call right away so we can set up an appointment for repair.
